Jeff and Sandra Hendred
associate pastors
Pastor Jeff and Sandra are no strangers to Ottumwa, Iowa. Jeff was born and raised here, while Sandra is originally from Arkansas. The two met while working at Oral Roberts University Hospital and have now been married for 38 years.
Jeff earned his Doctorate in Education in 2022, and Sandra holds degrees in Medical Technology and Elementary Education. Many in the community may also recognize them as the owners of Polar Xpress Frozen Yogurt — “A place where it’s all about you!”
Jeff and Sandra truly love people, and that passion is evident throughout the community. They have never met a stranger. Together, they are blessed with two adult children and two beautiful grandchildren.
John and donna johnson
lead pastors
Pastors John and Donna Johnson have served in ministry for over 38 years. Both are credentialed ministers and have faithfully served together as associate pastors in Colorado and Wisconsin, as well as 14 years as lead pastors in West Virginia.
Pastor John also served on the Board of Directors for Tri-State Adult & Teen Challenge. Prior to coming to Ottumwa, they both served as Executive Directors of Tri-State ATC.
Their love for people and passion for reaching the lost are evident in their ministry. They are committed to serving both the church and the community.
John and Donna have been married for 40 years and are blessed with three adult children and eight grandchildren.
Wes & Cindy VanAntwerp
missions pastor
Pastor Wes serves as our Missions Pastor, and Cindy is the Director of our Blessings Connection Room. Pastor Wes has participated in several mission trips, most recently traveling to Uganda, Africa. His passion for missions is evident in both his conversations and his commitment to serving others. Cindy also serves as a council member and treasurer at HGCC. Together, they are actively involved in Children’s Church and remain deeply invested in the life of the ministry.
Wes and Cindy have been part of Hickory Grove for over 38 years and have lived in the area for 45 years. Wes is a retired lineman from Alliant, and Cindy is a retired City Clerk. They have been married for 43 years and are blessed with three adult children and six grandchildren. There is truly nothing they are unwilling to do for the Kingdom of God.
